PHILIPPI -- Freshman hurler Sara Simon struck out nine batters and dinged a pair of RBIs Tuesday to help Philip Barbour power past Big 10 Conference rival Grafton, 9-1, in the Lady Colts' home opener.

After using a balanced attack with runs scored in all of the first four innings, Philip Barbour held the Bearcats to their lone run in the top of the fifth to end the contest via the mercy rule.

Simon picked up the win after five innings of work on the mound and only allowed one run and one hit.

Lilley Criss went 1 for 2 at the plate for PBHS while collecting a pair of RBIs.

Shelby Collins belted a double, while notching one hit each were Katey Gallo, McKenzie Moss and Erica Simon.

Next up for the 3-0 Lady Colts is another Big 10 contest today at Bridgeport High School with a first pitch time slated for 7 p.m.
