Tigers take part in Ripken Experience

Elkins opens home slate by defeating Liberty on Tuesday

ELKINS -- After going 1-3 at the Ripken Experience, the Elkins High School baseball team opened the home portion of the schedule with an 11-1 win over Liberty Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference play at Elkins High School/Post 29 Field.

The Tigers began their trip to Myrtle Beach (S.C.) with a 7-4 setback to Western Reserve (Ohio) on Friday morning.

They then fell to Mount St. Joseph (Md.), 8-4, on Saturday before defeating Potomac School (Va.) by a score of 11-1 later in the day.

Elkins concluded action with a 6-4 loss to University School of Jackson (Tenn.) on Monday morning before returning home.

In the win over Potomac School, junior Remington Stanley went the first four innings on the mound for the Tigers.

Senior Nathan Cooper pitched the final frame.

Senior Cole Crumm had two hits and a pair of RBIs to lead EHS at the plate, while junior Tyler Davis and Cooper added two hits each and sophomore Dustyn Primavero a pair of RBIs.

Senior Read Schumacher had three hits and Matthew Gainer two RBIs in the Tigers' first game of the Ripken Experience against Western Reserve.

Gainer, last year's Big 10 Conference Pitcher of the Year, also went five innings on the mound, recording five strikeouts on the day.

Cooper had three hits in the setback to Mount St. Joseph.

Schumacher went four innings on the mound.

Elkins will return to action at 5 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln.

The Tigers are then scheduled to visit Petersburg on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest and remain on the road Monday and Tuesday against Preston and Liberty, respectively.
