RACHEL -- North Marion broke a 2-2 deadlock with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 verdict over Philip Barbour Tuesday in Big 10 Conference play.
Senior hurler Cara Minor went all seven innings on the bump to get the win for the Lady Huskies.
Minor struck out seven while walking none and surrendering just two runs and six hits.
Lilley Criss started on the mound for PB and was charged with two hits, two walks and a run over one inning. Sara Simon took the loss after five innings of relief work on the hill, fanning five and allowing three hits and two runs with no free passes.
Simon doubled in the second before Shelby Collins singled to give the Lady Colts a pair of runners on the bags. Marissa Schiefelbein hit into a sacrifice type play to score Simon to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top side of the fourth stanza, Simon belted a triple that was followed up by a Criss sacrifice grounder to give PB a 2-1 lead.
North Marion manufactured a run in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the fifth to close things out.
Philip Barbour threatened in the seventh when Schiefelbein singled to put the tying run on base.
The Lady Colts slipped to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in league play. Philip Barbour will play host to sectional rival Keyser at 4 p.m. today.
