Elkins Post 29 cruises by Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio — Will Knight pitched seven strong innings and Elkins pounded out a season-high 13 hits en route to a 12-3 win over Marietta (Ohio) Sunday in American Legion baseball action.

Knight scattered five hits in the complete-game effort for Post 29 (8-9). He allowed just two earned runs, struck out eight and walked three batters. Knight helped his own cause at the plate with two hits.

Zack Colebank led Elkins at the plate with three hits and one RBI.

Remington Stanley and Dustyn Primavero followed with two hits each, while David Freeman knocked in three runs on one hit. Stanley and Chucky New drove in two runs apiece in the contest.

“With us only having nine players, we had a lot of young kids step up and perform well for us,” Elkins manager Chris George said. “We showed a lot of energy and we played well in a lot of areas. Will (Knight) pitched a tremendous game and everybody came out and hit the ball. I was pleased with the effort, especially from some of our younger players.”

Mike Reeder took the loss for Marietta in 2 2/3 innings of work. He surrendered three runs on four hits.

Corbin Alkire had a run-producing double to lead the hosts at the plate.

Post 29 dropped a pair of games to Parkersburg on Saturday, falling 12-2 in the opener and losing a hard-fought 8-7 contest in the nightcap.

In Game 2, Elkins trailed 6-0 in the contest before battling back to knot things up at 7-7. Post 15 scored in the final inning to squeak out the one-run win.

Post 29 will entertain Braxton County for a 6 p.m. contest at Philip Barbour High School on Tuesday.
