NUTTER FORT -- An eight-run fourth inning helped propel Elkins to a 13-8 win over Bridgeport Thursday night in American Legion Baseball action at Frank Loria Field.
Post 29, which improved to 7-7 with the win, fell behind early in the contest and trailed 2-1 going into the fourth inning.
Post 68 answered with three runs in the home-half of the frame to cut Elkins' lead to 9-5 going into the fifth inning.
Elkins tacked on four more runs in the sixth inning to push the deficit to 13-5, before the hosts closed out the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Remington Stanley scattered five hits in four innings pitched to earn the win for Post 29. Stanley struck out five batters and walked six.
Brett Smith, Read Schumacher and Cory Reed had two hits and two RBIs each to lead Elkins at the plate.
Gage Bibey knocked in a run on one hit.
"It was good to get win on the road at Bridgeport," Elkins manager Chris George said.
"We had a big inning in the fourth and Remington (Stanley) came out and pitched well. It was a good win for us."
Tanner Hoskinson suffered the loss for Bridgeport in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Hoskinson gave up six runs on two hits. He walked seven batters and struck out one.
Vincent Turner drove in two runs on a pair of hits to lead Bridgeport's offense.
Elkins will return to action Saturday when it travels to Parkersburg for a 2 p.m. doubleheader with the defending state champions.
