TV knocks off Braxton, Elkins falls

SUTTON — After receiving byes on the opening day of action on Saturday, Elkins and Tygart Valley began 11-12 year-old District 8 Little League Tournament play Sunday at Holly Gray Park.

Elkins dropped a 15-0 decision at the hands of Summersville, while Tygart Valley outlasted host Braxton County, 5-1.

Elkins will now face Belington, which lost to Braxton County 7-5 on Saturday, in an elimination game at 8:30 p.m. today

Tygart Valley, meanwhile, will face Summersville in a winner’s bracket game at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“Summersville always has a good team and nothing is any different this season because they’re good again,” Tygart Valley assistant coach Josh Teter said. “I think if we come out, stay focused and play basic fundamental baseball, we’re going to be alright against them. We feel that we have a pretty good team as well.”

Kaden Moore belted a two-run home run to help lead Tygart Valley to its victory on Sunday. He also had a single.

Ian Harris, Jacob Wamsley and Avery Row-Sponaugle added hits.

Moore, Kendall Armstrong and Marcus Radar all pitched well for the TV in limiting Braxton County to just one run.

“We’re really proud of the way the kids came out and played,” Teter said. “They played a good solid game all around and we’re glad to be advancing to the winner’s bracket. We just need to carry this momentum into Tuesday’s game.”

The double-elimination tournament will run through Friday if needed.
