Philip Barbour golfers drop home match to Lewis County

PHILIPPI -- Senior Kole Bozic put up a low-medalist gem of a performance with a 38 at the Barbour Country Club on Tuesday to lead Lewis County to a team victory over Philip Barbour.
The Minutemen tallied a score of 175, while the host Colts posted a 245 on the front nine during the Big 10 Conference encounter.
The Minutemen's top four golfers all shot under 50.
Hunter Heath (43), Austin Riley (45), and Luke Riley with a 49 rounded out the Lewis County scoring.
The Minutemaids' Ryanne Garrette and Haley Smith recorded a 51 and 52, respectively, during the day.
Philip Barbour head coach Tyler Rogers knows the Barbour course well, having begun playing there around 2011, several years before BCC shut down for a short while.
"We're fortunate enough right now to have enough volunteers come out to help us get it to back above ground to have the fairways and tee boxes mowed properly to where you can play to get the ball down," Rogers said.
"Our greens are struggling, but there's work being put in to make them better, too."
Corey Martin paced the Colts with a team-best round of 57.
Sara Simon and Mason Halfin with a pair of 60s, and Braiden Short (68) rounded out the young PB roster's scoring.
Rogers was complimentary of the efforts from this year's Colt squad.
"We want to be able to putt, but other than that the course is good," he said. "The kids go out there every day and try to get better, that's one thing you can ask for. They are all young to the game.
"They are mostly new to the game, learning the rules and learning how to play golf."
Philip Barbour will be at home again on Thursday for a Big 10 match which includes North Marion. Tee time is set for 4 p.m.
The Colts will visit East Fairmont at 4 p.m. on Monday.
