Petersburg tops Elkins in five sets

Elkins High School senior Sam Price makes a return against Petersburg Monday night at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers fell in five sets and will return to action Thursday at Lewis County.
ELKINS -- The Elkins High School volleyball team fell to Petersburg in five games Monday night in non-conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers (4-6) won the first two games of the match 28-26 and 25-21, but the Lady Vikings rallied to take the next three games by the scores 25-20, 25-8 and 15-12.
Sam Price led the way for Elkins with 22 kills and four ace serves. Morgan Bowers finished with 15 set assists and three aces, while Harmony Wilson tallied seven kills and four solo blocks. Dacey Arbogast chipped in with 14 set assists and Bailey Tracy had two kills.
"We came out and got off to a tremendous start, but wasn’t able to finish," Elkins coach Penny Crawford said. "This was our third straight match that has gone five games. Hopefully, we can get over this hump and come out strong in our next game."
The Lady Tigers' junior varsity team also suffered a setback at the hands of Petersburg. Elkins won the first game 25-13 but dropped the next two, 25-14 and 25-20.
Hannah Beam and Olivia Guire had six ace serves each for Elkins (4-4). Rumble Arbogast collected eight set assists, while Kelsey Swecker finished with six kills. Hannah Davis and Kenzie Phillips added three ace serves apiece.
The Lady Tigers will return to action Thursday at Big 10 foe Lewis County.
