Editor's Note: The following is part of a series of articles profiling The Inter-Mountain's staff.
ELKINS -- Michelle Smith, The Inter-Mountain's Advertising Director, enjoys working with local businesses to help them get their message out to the public.
"I have worked at The Inter-Mountain and been with Ogden Newspapers a total of 17 years," Smith said.
Smith has handled many different duties during her time at the newspaper.
"I started at The Inter-Mountain in 2001 as a Classified Assistant and then Classified Account Executive -- handling classified ads, dummying the paper, answering the phone and general office duties," she said.
"After saying when I was hired that I would never do sales, I started doing outside sales to local businesses and loved it. Web site coordinator was next, to help launch our new web site at that time.
"Returning to The Inter- Mountain in 2011 as Advertising Director, I work with The Inter-Mountain staff and local businesses and organizations to plan and coordinate all marketing projects," Smith said.
Asked what she likes most about her job, Smith said, "I enjoy meeting and working with local businesses."
Smith noted she has had several memorable experiences while working at The Inter-Mountain.
"There have been many-- helping to hand out food at Christmas, the first Taste of Home Show, and working by flashlight during Super Storm Sandy for several days when there was no power," she said.
Like many other people, Smith said the COVID-19 pandemic has had an effect on how she performs her work duties.
"COVID-19 has impacted my job in many ways, but not being able to communicate with peers and customers in person was the hardest to adapt to," she said. "We also had to become creative with our marketing projects since businesses were closed, then at reduced capacity, and fairs and festivals were canceled."
Smith is married with two sons.
