Knights Templar Provide Scholarships

ELKINS -- Pilgrim Commandery No. 21 Knights Templar in Elkins has been awarding $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors in Randolph County since 1989.
Applications for the scholarships are made available through the guidance counselor at each of the high schools in Randolph County. To qualify for the scholarships students must have maintained a GPA through high school of 3.5 or higher.
Students are also required to write an essay on current events and have an in-person interview with the Education Committee of the Knights Templar.
"We really don't have a limit on the number of scholarships we award each year," stated Justin Thompson, Education Committee Chairman. "In 2020 we handed out eight $1,000 scholarships and I don't think there was a year since we started the scholarship program that we didn't hand out at least four scholarships."
This year five students from Elkins, Pickens and Tygarts Valley high schools were recipients of the $1,000 scholarships. Students were presented their scholarships at the Boyd Wees Masonic Temple in Elkins.
The winners include Shania Tiffner of Pickens School; Caitlyn Rennix of Tygarts Valley High School; and Sophia Shoemaker, Thomas Nixon and Olivia Guire of Elkins High School.
