Behold the Beauty
Quilters Exhibit an annual visual feast
ELKINS — Amid the pageantry and parades that are symbolic of our upcoming Forest Festival are other celebrated events that invite our involvement.
One of these is the Log Cabin Quilters Exhibit, which will be featured in the Elkins YMCA during the 86th Mountain State Forest Festival, on Oct. 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
More than 35 group members will exhibit nearly 100 quilts, including those from their Children’s Quilt Camp. The large array of beautiful quilts were so stunning last year, it is only right that they should receive a special recognition and a high recommendation for viewing. These artistic creations which took so many hour of work, need to be on everyone’s radar as their Forest Festival visit is made.
In addition to the many quilts, the 2023 National Christmas Tree skirt that adorned the United States Department of Agriculture Building in Washington, D.C. will be featured.
Appearing on this page are several photos captured last year which reveal the quality work that has been a hallmark of this group for many years. It is worth a trip to Elkins to be able to see and admire the skills and hours put into these creations.
As one walks among these quilts, they may be reminded of a grandmother who spent hours every winter day working on a special quilt for seasonal warmth. This ancestral artistry has been kept alive and the special memories it will help recreate will be worth every effort made to attend and admire.
