The family of Emmy Booth Reed held a birthday celebration in her honor at the Wyndham Conference Center in Elkins on July 24.
Emmy turned 90 on July 24, 2021. Born in Barbour County, Emmy has lived in Elkins since her marriage to Aldine Reed in 1949. Emmy, known as the matriarch of the family, is quite the avid reader and enjoys gardening at her home in Crystal Springs. She is also an active member of the Goff Street Church of Christ.
Emmy has six children and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, many of which were in attendance on Saturday. Judy Wetzel said of her mother, “There are many beautiful poems written about mothers, but we all have been lucky because we have lived those poems.”
Emmy’s key to longevity is a life well lived, keeping her faith and family at the center of her world.
