Elkins High School class of 1959 hosts 65th reunion

ELKINS — The Elkins High School Class of 1959 met Friday, Sept. 7, at Smoke on the Water to celebrate their 65th reunion.

A delicious dinner was enjoyed by 25 with an evening of “Remember When.” Saturday’s event was held at the Elks Club, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Dinner was catered by “Puttin on the Ritz,” a delightful group from Pocahontas County.

The invocation was delivered by Burton Hare, who after high school graduated from the Minnesota Ministerial College. After dinner, he also entertained the group with his stories and songs of the Navy that he enjoyed when he was stationed on a submarine during his career days.

Master of Ceremonies was former classmate Cecil Hurst, who brought music, sound and entertainment to the lively group.

The class picture was taken by Photo One of Elkins, and included 18 classmates. A beautiful painting of the Gristmill at Babcock State Park by former classmate Harriet Stout of Oregon was chanced off and won by Max Armentrout.

After a very thoughtful suggestion was made, it was voted on by the classmates that due to age, travel and physicality, the class checking account would be closed. The remaining money in the account will be donated to the Elkins High School Athletic Association.

“Until we meet again, go in peace and love.”

Starting at $3.92/week.
