On Monday several city officials, along with other community leaders, will be attending a summit entitled “Opportunity Appalachia,” the focus of which is to provide insight into the W.V. Development Office’s Opportunity Zone initiative, including how municipalities are using the program and what challenges they’ve faced.
To accommodate this absence, both the Public Safety and Personnel Committee recurring meetings have been moved to Tuesday, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively. Attendees of the Public Safety meeting can hear discussion on a possible expansion of the code enforcement and police departments; recommendations for additional property demolitions; and the committee’s 2020 priorities.
Personnel members will consider changes to the city’s personnel manual, as well as a proposed new position in operations. At 3 p.m. this same day, the newly formed Ad-hoc Committee on Boards and Commissions is scheduled to hold their first meeting. The committee will consider their goals and recurring meeting time.
At 9 a.m. the following day, the Municipal Properties Committee will consider some old business as well as new items including a request to change the traffic pattern on Gorman Avenue and a renewal of the flower contract.
The Economic Growth and Development Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. followed by the regular meeting of City Council at 7 p.m.
