ERCC supports businesses, employees

ELKINS — Recognizing the challenges created for both their employees and local businesses by the COVID-19 pandemic, Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center (ERCC) has implemented a creative program to show appreciation for the work of their employees while supporting local businesses.

ERCC purchased $25 gift cards from local eateries to distribute to all employees, Administrator Tara Shaver said. The gift cards from six local restaurants in Elkins were then distributed to surprised employees at the facility.

“Our employees are doing such a great job during this global pandemic,” Shaver said. “We just want to show our appreciation for all they are doing during these difficult circumstances.”

ERCC had previously distributed $100 bonuses to all employees, she added.

“We want to do everything we can to help our employees that are sacrificing so much to care for our residents,” Shaver noted. “The gift cards are a way to provide a meal for our staff after a long shift while supporting the wonderful local restaurants and their employees that are also experiencing hardship.”

The restaurants include Scottie’s of Elkins, Beander’s Restaurant and Tavern, Mama Mia’s Pizzeria & Restaurante, Gino’s Pizza & Spaghetti House, and T-Mart. In order to abide by social distancing requirements, all of the local restaurants selected provide take-out service, Shaver added.

Shaver also pointed out that the purchase serves a dual purpose.

“We’re injecting money into our local economy and helping our employees provide food for their families,” she said. “We hope other local businesses will join us in supporting each other through these difficult times.”
