ELKINS — This week, there are meetings of the Elkins council’s Municipal Properties Committee, the Elkins Planning Commission, and the ad hoc Boards and Commissions Committee.
On Wednesday at 9 a.m., the Municipal Properties Committee will work through an agenda including a discussion of the Elkins Main Street Streetscape plan, the FY 2021 downtown flowers contract, public flower planting, and the availability of grant funding for additional replacement of downtown trees.
At Wednesday’s 1 p.m. virtual meeting of the Elkins Planning Commission, commissioners will review and discuss needed amendments to the city’s comprehensive plan and continue work on drafting a zoning ordinance update. The commission has been at work since 2016 on updating the city’s zoning laws, which have not been significantly amended since their adoption in 1959. The mayor’s ad hoc Boards and Commissions Committee meets at 9 a.m. on Friday to review upcoming reappointments and vacancies on city boards and commissions.
Halloween trick-or-treating will be observed in Elkins on October 31st, from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Council urges residents and trick-or-treaters to follow CDC recommendations for reducing the chances of transmitting the COVID-19 virus during Halloween celebrations. These recommendations include ensuring that social distancing is practiced while trick-or-treating and avoiding indoor gatherings with guests who do not live in the same households.
