Rare photo donated to museum
Joy Winet, curator of the West Virginia State Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, Quiet Dell, Harrison County, has announced a recent acquisition to the museum.
The museum was notified on Oct. 20 that a Texas couple had purchased a rare group photo of CCC Camp Harrison, Quiet Dell. Richard L. and Bee L. Flagg, who reside in Austin, Texas, had the photo refurbished and a beautiful frame added. The Flaggs, originally from the Martinsburg area, have donated the photo to the museum.
This is the first group photo obtained of the 1936 Camp Harrison for the museum. Winet said. “We are very excited to receive this rare photo. A photo which we did not know was still in existence. The photo will be displayed at the museum sometime in March for the CCC Anniversary Day.”
The West Virginia State CCC Museum, founded in 2002, is located at the historic Quiet Dell Grade School in Harrison County. The West Virginia Heritage Crafts Group operates a craft shop in the historic school.
