ELKINS — The Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College has been approved for a $20,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support their world-renowned traditional arts programming.

This project is designed to highlight Appalachia’s cultural exports to the world, including music, dance, folklore, craft and other folkways. Augusta’s project is among 1,073 projects across America totaling nearly $25 million that were selected during this first round of fiscal year 2021 funding in the Grants for Arts Projects funding category.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support this project from The Augusta Heritage Center,” said Arts Endowment Acting Chairman Ann Eilers. “Augusta is among the arts organizations across the country that have demonstrated creativity, excellence and resilience during this very challenging year.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity that highlights just how special our community is” said Seth Young, Augusta executive director. “The music, art and other folkways we create and celebrate here have a ripple effect felt around the world. It is our privilege to live in a place that is so unique and full of tradition.”

“I am honored that Augusta has been recognized again on the national level for the work that we are doing here in Elkins,” said Augusta Artistic Director Emily Miller. “It’s wonderful to know that we are continuing to turn heads and to bring attention to West Virginia’s incredible folk traditions. I’m looking forward to everything that Augusta has planned for this coming year.”

No matter what the future holds, Augusta will keep learners connected and engaged through the joy of traditional arts celebration. Whether that celebration occurs on the scenic campus of Davis & Elkins College or is delivered into the safety of your own home virtually, Augusta is leading the way in cultural education and events.
