Coger graduates Navy recruit training
It is with great pride and honor that Tommy and Lori Coger, of Elkins announce the graduation of their son, Devin A. Coger, from Navy Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois.
Coger answered the call to serve his country like his grandfather, the Iate Larry G. Bodnar, who was an E-4 in the U.S. Army.
Coger graduated Navy Basic Training as an Aviation Ordnanceman. While there he completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and also shipboard and aircraft safety.
An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Coger received the National Defense Medal and Ribbon as well as the Pistol Sharpshooter Marksmanship Medal and Ribbon.
The capstone event of bootcamp is “BattleStations 2L.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “BattleStations 2L” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. lt’s distinctly “Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Coger will further his Navy education in Pensacola, Florida, after which he will be assigned to a ship. He is the brother of Tommy (T.J.) Coger Jr. and wife, Mandi, of Elkins; and the grandson of Teri and Neil Chenoweth of Elkins and Gerald and Hallie Coger of Beverly.
Coger graduated EIkins High School with the class of 2019.
