ELKINS -- Meeting next week are council's Public Safety, Rules & Ordinances, and Personnel Committees. The fire-chief search committee also meets. Work to enable streaming council and other meetings is progressing. There are openings on city boards and commissions.
The Public Safety Committee meets Monday at 10 a.m. There are no business items on the agenda, but the committee will hear reports from the city's public safety officials.
The Rules & Ordinances Committee meets Wednesday at 9 a.m. to review proposed amendments to the ordinance establishing the Elkins Tree Board.
Meeting Thursday at 11 a.m., the ad hoc search committee for a new fire chief will review and update the position's job description before officially posting the position. Later Thursday, at noon, the Personnel Committee will review an analysis of the compensation levels of city employees.
A project to enable the online streaming of meetings in the council chamber at Elkins City Hall is nearing completion, although it is not yet possible to announce a firm date when this work will be finished.
There are openings on the Elkins Police Civil Service Commission and the Elkins Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). These volunteer positions play crucial roles in city governance.
Among other duties, the Elkins Police Civil Service Commission oversees the steps leading up to the creation of the department's list of persons eligible for appointment as officers.
