PHILIPPI -- Continuing its "Welcome to Philippi" project, the Philippi Convention and Visitors Bureau recently dropped by the Philippi Wellness Center to welcome the Center to Philippi.

The Philippi Wellness Center is part of the Barbour County Community Health Association and was opened in January 2021 to provide basic wellness and preventive services to area citizens. The local site provides opportunities for indoor cardio exercise and strength training.

Donna Seaman, Philippi Wellness Center Manager, noted that the Center has a variety of exercise equipment including treadmills, NuSteps, stationary bikes, and an elliptical machine. It also has 1 to 50-pound free weights for its members.

Preparation work is currently in process readying a room to host seminars, workshops, and small classes like Yoga in the near future. Additionally, Seaman said she is ready to begin a "walkercise" class in the gym of the former City Building.

Eric Ruff, CEO of the Community Health Association, said the Association had been interested for some years in offering a wellness site in Philippi. When space became available in the back of the Barbour Chiropractic Center at 206 N. Main Street in Philippi, the Association was quick to move on establishing its fourth wellness center in the county.

The new Philippi Wellness Center is open weekdays from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Staff members Ricki Mitchell, Taylee Tallman and Trent Tallman, along with Seaman, are eager to welcome area citizens to the site and introduce them to what is available to help everyone stay healthy.
