Cortland Acres recently honored longtime employees with a special breakfast. This year the employees celebrated include, left to right, Alisha McCune, physical therapist; Robin Eye, director of nursing; Barb Shahan, RN; David Jolly, CNA; Pam Kosanic, LPN; and Karen Uffman, CNA.
The service of its dedicated employees is the backbone of Cortland Acres. This month eight Cortland Acres employees were honored who have a combined 155 years of service.
Beth Clevenger, administrator of Cortland Acres, said that it is important to highlight the achievements of the employees and the compassionate care they provide daily to residents and their families.
"We want our employees to know how much we value them and give them an opportunity to be recognized for their dedication and commitment in serving our community," Clevenger said. "Our employees are a blessing, and we are grateful for their contributions that help Cortland Acres stand above the rest."
As part of an annual tradition, Cortland celebrates people in five-year service increments. The following employees were recognized during the celebration: David Jolly, certified nursing assistant, 30 years; Donna Mason, certified nursing assistant, 25 years; Pam Kosanic, licensed practical nurse, 25 years; Karen Uffman, certified nursing assistant, 20 years; Barb Shahan, registered nurse, 20 years; Alisha McCune, director of physical therapy, 15 years; Debbie Berry, chief financial officer, 15 years; and Kristin Nestor, licensed practical nurse, 5 years.
Director of Nursing Robin Eye thanked the employees for going the extra mile for the residents each and every day. "I appreciate you making sure the residents are heard and taken care of," she said.
"I'm thankful for the professional heartfelt care you provide each resident at their bedside," Eye told the employees. "You are here for them and their families in good times and bad. I thank you for your years of service and value your dedication."
One employee recognized was Barb Shahan for her 20 years of service as a registered nurse. In reality, the years she spent serving the residents at Cortland Acres are much more.
"I left to work with the West Virginia Correctional System for a short time," she said with a smile recalling several stories. "I quickly realized that it wasn't the right move and found my way back to Cortland Acres. I'm very attached to the residents and love taking care of them in mind, body, and spirit."
Alisha McCune serves as the Director of Physical Therapy at Cortland Acres. She was honored for her 15 years of service by listening to 15 reasons why she is valued by the organization.
"My best memories come from the people I have had the opportunity to work with over the years," McCune said. "I've had the privilege of working with some great people whom I value and respect. We work as a team to provide the best care possible for our patients and to get them back home quickly and functioning normally."
David Jolly was honored for his 30 years of service as a certified nursing assistant. He cherishes every day he is able to work at Cortland Acres.
"It doesn't really feel like it is a job," Jolly said. "It just kind of feels like one big family. You get to know the residents' families and it is just wonderful to be able to make them smile and have a good day."
Another employee honored was Pam Kosanic, who devoted 25 years of service as a licensed practical nurse.
"I always try to treat the residents like I would a family member and to be patient with them if they have concerns or anything," Kosanic said. "I'm always willing to sit down with them and listen to them."
Karen Uffman celebrated 20 years of working as a certified nursing assistant at Cortland Acres. She enjoys providing compassionate care to residents and their families.
"I care deeply for the residents and my co-workers at Cortland Acres," Uffman said. "I consider myself fortunate that I have the chance to serve people in my community."
Cortland Acres recently implemented an organizational-wide wage increase for its employees. The increase went into effect in January.
"We want our employees to know that we value the crucial work they do, each and every day in caring for our residents," Clevenger said.
