"The Pride of Barbour County," in conjunction with the West Virginia Division of Culture, Arts, and History, is preparing to welcome 21 bands to the turf of George Byrer Field at BCBank Park Saturday.
The Horseshoe Classic is the last entry in the Governor's Cup Marching Band series, which culminates in the West Virginia State Marching Band Invitational Oct. 29. Last year was the inaugural event, which saw the band welcome Governor Jim Justice and Babydog, to their first-ever band competition. At that competition 17 bands participated.
With this year's competition seeing a larger field, plus an exhibition performance by Glenville State's marching band. Bands slated to appear include: Buckhannon-Upshur, Cabell Midland, Doddridge County, Elkins, Frankfort, Grafton, Greenbrier East, Lewis County, North Marion, Paden City, Parkersburg, Parkersburg South, Petersburg, Preston, South Charleston, St. Mary's, Tyler Consolidated, Wyoming East and Webster County High Schools, along with "The Pride of Barbour County."
The price of admission is $8 for those school-aged and older, and a full color program, raffles, and T-shirts will be available for purchase, along with concessions. Gates open at 1:30 p.m., with the Colt Chords set to sing the national anthem at 2:30 p.m.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to see a great field of marching bands, locally, and a great chance for us to share Barbour County hospitality with these bands as well," Philip Barbour Band Director Victor Iapalucci said.
