New facility chaplain arrives at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center

Yothers

ELKINS — Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center and subsidiary, Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center, welcomed their new chaplain to the facilities effective Feb. 1.

Rev. Robert Yothers Jr. brings over 30 years of experience in the faith-based community to ERCC and Mountain Memories. He joined the facilities following the departure of long-time pastor Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley.

Dr. Hensley, a retired pastor of First United Methodist Church in Elkins, served as chaplain at ERCC from 2005 until 2020.

“We are so blessed to be able to offer spiritual care and chaplain services at both ERCC and Mountain Memories,” said Tara Shaver, ERCC administrator. “It is an important part of what helps define the person-centered care of ERCC.”

ERCC and Mountain Memories provide spiritual care which includes chaplain services. The services consist of access to the chapel and Family Room, church services for a variety of denominations, and support from community churches. The chaplain is available as needed to serve the spiritual needs of residents and family members. For those with a particular religious preference, ERCC and Mountain Memories work with the clergy of their choosing to assist in spiritual care.

“Being able to accommodate our residents and their families with faith-based spiritual care is something we take pride in,” said Christina Kittle, Mountain Memories executive director.

Rev. Yothers received a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Trinity Bible College. He is currently the Pastor of Dry Fork Assembly of God and served as a teaching and campus pastor at LIFE Church AG in Fruitland Park, Florida.

“It is very fulfilling to be able to provide spiritual care and guidance to my community,” said Rev. Yothers. “It is a privilege to be part of the spiritual family of ERCC and Mountain Memories.”
