Families In Nature Learning Day slated

2 min read

Families and people of all ages are invited to join Randolph County Outdoors and recreation organizations from the region to participate in Families In Nature Learning Day Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Augusta Pavilion on the campus of Davis & Elkins College.

This event is part of Remake Learning Days, an effort that is taking root across 15 regions in 2023, including international regions in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Uruguay. The growth of Remake Learning Days is in response to a desire for more real-world learning experiences that prepare youth from all backgrounds and all neighborhoods for our rapidly changing world.

The hope is to create a genuine movement of educators, parents, and students and ignite a global conversation around the future of learning and increase the demand for engaging and equitable hands-on experiences across all the spaces kids learn.

Several activities will take place Sunday, including a Nature Scavenger Hunt, Animal Yoga, Nature Games, a Pollinator Station, "Leave No Trace" principals, local trail information, a Meet & Greet with Woodsy the Owl, and making ornaments using recycled items for the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree.

Event collaborators include the U.S. Forest Service, WVU Randolph County Extension Service, Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area, WV Master Naturalist Tygart Valley Chapter, WV Department of Environmental Protection, Davis & Elkins College, Elkins Friends of Trees, Kump Education Center, Experience Learning, Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, Elkins Main Street, and Wonder & Grow: Mindful Nature Experience.

A variety of giveaways will be available, and event participants will be eligible to win a $100 Amazon Gift Card. Parking will be available by the McDonnell Center for Health, Physical Education and Athletics by way of Harpertown Road. The Families in Nature Learning Day event will take place rain or shine.
