BUCKHANNON -- Jawbone Park in downtown Buckhannon will be buzzing with activities the weekend of June 16-17 as the Almost Heaven BBQ Bash kicks off it's eighth year.
Kids can create their own free "take home" Sand Art piece and watch Gilbert's World of Wonder design balloon sculptures. There's also a Dime Toss to win a great variety of glass pieces and a Cake Walk (for adults) and a new Cupcake Walk -- just for young visitors.
A highlight of this year's event will be the Dino Roar Tour featuring an educational display of dinosaur fossils, baby dinos and even a full-grown T-Rex. Kids can interact with the Dino handlers and dinos and get their photo taken with a T-Rex and others.
The three shows on Friday, June 16 will be at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and will be free to everyone at the Main Stage area of Jawbone Park.
Officials said they are excited to welcome the return of the Laurel Fork Falconer, Collin Waybright, featuring his amazing West Virginia birds of prey - those who've been rescued and will be rehabilitated to return to the wild.
Waybright also shares his knowledge about many different birds, and performs periodic falconry demonstrations. These interesting and informative shows are also free to the public.
Saturday offers more fun with the BBQ Bash's first "Cruise In" on Main Street (registration begins at 10 a.m., with the cruise-in running from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. with custom dash plaques for the first 100 registrants), a Cornhole Tournament at the Peak Pavilion at the BiCentennial Inn with $1,000 in cash prizes and trophies, and a Twirling Competition from 2-4 p.m. on South Florida Street in front of the Safety Complex.
The weekend will be filled with free activities for the children and the entire family with unique arts & crafts, live entertainment, food vendors serving delicious BBQ, other food items and lots of "sweet treats" including fresh-made mini donuts "made to order", a bakery with cake slices, specialty cupcakes, fudge, brownies, and cookies, and homemade ice cream, floats, milkshakes, and more, made at the event. There will also be kettle corn, specialty jerky products, pork rinds, Zul's, and lots more food to enjoy.
