EMMA SCOTT ANNUAL PLANT SALE: The Emma Scott Garden Club presents its "Ninth Annual, Floral, Food and Fun” event today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Randolph County Community Arts Center. Plants will be offered for a reasonable price along with bazaar items and freshly baked goods. Proceeds from the event help fund the club’s many projects throughout the year. FREE BREAKFAST: Elkins Lodge No. 108 A.F. & A.M. will have a free breakfast today at 9 a.m. for all Master Masons. Work on third degree will immediately follow. All Master Masons are encouraged to attend.
GOSPEL SING: Valley Bend Presbyterian Church in East Dailey will host a gospel sing 7 p.m. today featuring the Chewnings. Everyone is welcome.
LIONS CLUB OF ELKINS CHICKEN BARBECUE: The Lions Club of Elkins will have a chicken barbecue on Saturday at the parking lot across from Davis Electrical Service on Randolph Avenue (former IGA). The meal will include half a chicken, two side items, roll, dessert and bottled water. The meals will be ready for drive-thru and walk-up pickup by 11 a.m.
BUCKWHEAT FEED: Randolph Lodge IOOF will host a sourdough buckwheat breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lodge Hall on the Beverly Five-lane. The menu will include sourdough buckwheat cakes, regular pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice.
CONCEALED CARRY/BASIC PISTOL COURSE: will be Sunday, May 21 at the Coalton VFW at 3436 Coalton-Pumpkintown Road. Day-of event registration will be permitted, if class is not full, beginning at 9 a.m. and running until the class starting time at 10 a.m. WV Double Tap Gun Club. YOUTH AIR RIFLE/PISTOL SHOOTING EVENT: will be Sunday at the shooting range located on the left past the Chapter's Clubhouse on Files Creek Road in Beverly. Registration will be at 12:30 p.m. The event starts at 1 p.m. This event is free and is open to kids ages 8-17 years. Equipment will be provided. The event is sponsored by funds from NRA Grants, the WV State Division IWLA & Mountaineer Chapter.
RANDOLPH COUNTY REPUBLICAN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: will meet Tuesday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m .at the Pizza Hut in Elkins. Candidates for the next election will be present.
TVHS ALUMNI GATHERING: Tygarts Valley High School is inviting alumni to the 100th graduation set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, at the football if the weather allows. If the graduation is held inside the gymnasium, there will only be limited room for families of the 2023 graduating class. There will also be an alumni gathering at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 26. The cafeteria will be open for quiet conversation and the gym will be used for dancing and reminiscing. The FFA will host a chicken burn on Saturday, May 27, and school tours will be available starting in the cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
89TH BEVERLY SCHOOL ALUMNI BANQUET: will be Saturday, May 27 at the Beverly Elementary School gymnasium. Registration and social hour will be from 5-6 p.m. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. Everyone who attended Beverly School is invited to attend. The deadline for reservations is today. ADOPT A TREE PROGRAM: is now underway by the Elkins Tree Board (ETB). Ten trees will be distributed throughout the five Elkins' wards. Priority will be given to residents who plant the tree in the front of their homes to maximize benefit to the streetscape and urban forest. Residents apply by contacting the ETB at elkinstreeboard@gmail.com. Applications are due by June 1. Tree must be planted within two weeks of receipt. Applications may also be picked up at Elkins City Hall.
BINGO: Elkins Babe Ruth Baseball will host bingo on Saturday, June 3, at the Phil Gainer Center. Early Bird Drawing of $100 on May 20. Doors open at 5 p.m.; Bingo starts at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available. Chinese and silent auctions, and a 50/50 drawing. Tickets may be purchased from players, coaches and at the field or by calling 304-591-2567.
PIE/CUPCAKE CONTEST: The Barbour County Community Educational Outreach Services (CEOS) will be sponsoring the 2023 Blue and Gray Reunion Pie/Cupcake Contest on Saturday, June 3,on the Barbour County Courthouse Square in Philippi. There are three categories: Children (up to 16 years old), amateur and commercial. Bring your best baked goods to the event between 10 a.m. and noon, judging will be at 1 p.m. If you are interested and would like the rules and registration information, you can go to the Barbour County WV CEOS Facebook page, email barbourceos@gmail.com or just give us a call at 304-669-6833. FREE TREE PLANTING WORKSHOP: sponsored by the Elkins Tree Board will be Saturday, June 10 at 11 a.m. in the front lawn of the historic Gov. Kump House on Randolph Ave. (across from Kroger). Parking is available in the rear of the Kump House. ETB member and silviculturist Linda Burke will lead the workshop which will focus on proper timing and methods of successful tree planting and care. GOSPEL JAMBOREE: Valley Vista Camp located at 532 Valley Vista Lane Huttonsville will host a Friday night Gospel Jamboree on June 16, starting at 7.pm. The Lesters and other gospel acts will take the stage for a night of praise. The fun will continue on Saturday, June 17 at 7 p.m with another full evening of music.
