MORGANTOWN — Mon Health System is proud to announce that Dr. Jaschar Shakuri-Rad is the first surgeon in West Virginia to install the new Axonics R20 Implant. Axonics’ bladder and bowel therapy is a long-lasting and clinically proven treatment option that can help restore normal function of the bladder and bowel.

The Axonics R20 device allows for relief from bladder and bowel symptoms such as frequent urination, sudden or strong urges to urinate, urine leakage, incomplete emptying of the bladder, and bowel incontinence.

The therapy uses a miniature implant to provide gentle stimulation to the nerves that control the bladder and bowel to restore communication between the brain and the bladder and bowel, which results in an improvement of symptoms.

“There is no need for our patients to travel far to receive the most cutting-edge treatments. At Mon Health, you have the most capable hands and a family friendly environment that makes you feel at home,” said Dr. Shakuri-Rad, robotic surgeon and urologist at Mon Health System.

Battery technology allows for charge free hassle on the device for up to six to ten months with a 20+ year battery life. The recharge-free patient remote control is pocket-sized and easy to use and will indicate when it is time to recharge. The wireless charging system allows for patient mobility and charges wirelessly through the skin.

“We are excited and proud of Dr. Shakuri-Rad for being the first to install the new Axonics R20 Implant. Our surgeons and teams are known widely for their excellence; offering this new therapy will add to the reasons why patients choose Mon Health for their medical care,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health.
