PICKIN' IN THE PARK: Wednesday Night Pickin' In The Park returns to Elkins City Park every Wednesday night through the summer beginning June 6. The jam sessions are co-sponsored by the Augusta Heritage Center and Elkins Parks & Recreation and will continue weekly until cold weather returns. The Country Music Jam Sessions begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Small Pavilion and the Old-Time Music Jam Sessions start at 7 p.m. in the raised Sycamore Street Pavilion. Both events will run for at least two hours, and are welcome to continue until the musicians are ready to stop. All acoustic instruments are welcome, as well as singers, dancers, and listeners, but please, no amplifiers or sound systems are permitted. There are picnic tables and light in the pavilions, but those who can bring a chair and a flashlight may find it helpful to do so.
SPAGHETTI DINNER: The Randolph County Special Olympics Spaghetti dinner will be Saturday at the Beverly Fire Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drink. FREE TREE PLANTING WORKSHOP: sponsored by the Elkins Tree Board will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the front lawn of the historic Gov. Kump House on Randolph Ave. (across from Kroger). Parking is available in the rear of the Kump House. ETB member and silviculturist Linda Burke will lead the workshop which will focus on proper timing and methods of successful tree planting and care. HOMECOMING: The Lambert Community Church will host a homecoming event on June 11 beginning at 10 a.m. The guest speaker will be Jerry Ayers and a covered dish dinner will follow.
HOT DOG MEAL: to benefit Marsha Taylor, suffering from brain cancer, will be Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. at the main dining hall at 4-H Camp Pioneer. The meal will consist of two hot dogs, macaroni salad, a bag of chips and a drink. For more information, call Harvey Taylor at 304-338-2087.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Whitmer United Methodist Church will host Vacation Bible School from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. June 12-16. Activities will include stories, songs, crafts, fun and more.
GOSPEL JAMBOREE: Valley Vista Camp located at 532 Valley Vista Lane Huttonsville will host a Friday night Gospel Jamboree on June 16, starting at 7.pm. The Lesters and other gospel acts will take the stage for a night of praise. The fun will continue on Saturday, June 17 at 7 p.m with another full evening of music. EHS CLASS OF 1973: Elkins High School class of 1973 is planning its 50th class reunion for Aug. 11 and 12. If you are planning to attend, contact Laurella Hardesty Lawrence at 304-636-7847 by July 1.
REUNION: Belington High School will host a reunion at 5 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Stear Steakhouse in Elkins. Each individual will pay for their own dinner. This is an invitation for anyone who attended BHS along with family and friends. Please RSVP by July 5.
