Gandy Dancer an award-winning theater

3 min read

ELKINS -- The Gandy Dancer Theatre is well into its 13th season.

Since it's opening in 2011, it has grown and evolved from a two-show a year theatre, to a multi-award winning theatre and conference center that boasts eight different shows each year, and hosts weddings and events throughout the year.

Leading the show cast is husband and wife duo Nina Sharp and Rocky Hebb. Every time they step out to perform, they bring so much electricity to the stage. hey both have the ability to bring to life every character that they do.

Nina Sharp is the owner of Center Stage Dance Studio that just won two National Grand Championships, and they provide the choreography for the Gandy Dancer Theatre Premier Show.

The band leader David Stump is a tremendous drummer that is a pleasure to watch. He keeps everyone on point while delivering an exciting performance.

Greg Thompson is the most gifted violin/fiddler player the theatre has ever seen. From his classical training to his down-to-earth rendition of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" he lights up the crowd with anything he plays.

Clint Davidson and Aaron Baker highlight every song with their talents. Davidson is a joy to watch perform because he enjoys what he's doing every time he is on stage. Baker is one of the vocalists as well and plays a multitude of instruments for the shows.

Hannah Shiflett is the youngest main performer. Her singing and dancing are a perfect match for this beautiful young lady. She also is the lead dancer and choreographer.

Their Tribute to Musical Legends show features the emcee antics of both Tater Tom played by Tom Singleton and Ralph Bennett, the owner and vocalist in this show. Ralph Bennett delights all ages with songs from Bob Segar's "Old Time Rockin' Roll" to Frank Sinatra's "My Way."

The Premier show would not be complete without beautiful dancers: Hannah Shiflett, Melody Calkins, Lydia Wamsley, Raegan Booth and Aniya Mitchell.

So what else does the Gandy have to offer? How about two Murder Mystery Dinner Shows, Aloha From Elvis, Broadway to Gospel, the Mountain Memories Christmas Show, and wrapping up the year with the New Year's Eve with Elvis.

The Gandy Dancer Theatre has won over 15 awards, and given back to the community with Christmas gifts to the local children, blood drives and so much more.

With wonderful food prepared by Chef Joe Kelly, the lovely servers Morgan Taylor, Sydney Collett, Serena Hostetler and Breanna Stanton, the charming Diane Peters, the administrative assistant to G'na Stephens, the C.E.O., and finally the audio and lighting technician Glenn Paoli.
