EDITOR'S NOTE: The Datebook is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY CEREMONY: will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the All Veterans Monument in Elkins. Everyone is invited to join in paying tribute to those who gave so much. It is fitting that we continue to show them that 'You Are Not Forgotten.' In the event of inclement weather, the alternate site will be the VFW Hall.

CAMP HOPE BENEFIT DINNER: will be Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. at  Crim Memorial United Methodist Church, 78 Pike Street Philippi, WV 26416, You can call for advanced tickets at 304-366-8345. The meal will consist of Uncle V's Kickin' Chicken smoked on site and sides.

HOMESTEAD BUCKWHEAT/PANCAKE BREAKFAST: will be held on Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon at the Homestead Community and Event Center dining hall in Valley Bend. The all you can eat menu includes sour dough buckwheat cakes, regular pancakes, pork sausage, eggs (fried or scrambled), coffee, milk, or orange juice and syrup (regular or sugar free). Dine in or carry out. Upcoming Homestead buckwheat/pancake breakfasts are scheduled for Oct. 14 and Nov. 25.

RANDOLPH COUNTY FARM BUREAU: will have a dinner meeting on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. at Camp Pioneer. Karen Malick will speak concerning J.B. Insurance of West Virginia. Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact 304-338-6010.

JOHN HART CHAPTER DAR: will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. in the Maxwell Room at the Randolph County Community Arts Center. There will be a program and refreshments. For more information about the meeting and/or about how to join DAR, call 304 642-8320.

MISS AUTUMN ON THE DRYFORK PAGEANT: will be Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. Harman School. School age (1-12 grade) (Sportswear and formal wear); Ages 0-5 (not yet in grade school. The application deadline is Sept. 11. All Profits go to the Dryfork Recreation Center in Harman. For more information contact Alison Warner at 304-668-5540.

UPSHUR COUNTY SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY: offering a free residential paper shred event on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to Noon at 395 Mudlick Road, across from the Transfer Station.

RANDOLPH COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL: will meet Friday, Sept. 29, at the Steer Steakhouse in Elkins. The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. WV Caring will present the program. MSFF GRAND FEATURE PARADE SEATS: Forest Festival Grand Feature Parade seats will be available at Otterbein United Methodist Church at 1100 South Davis Avenue in Elkins. Parade seats may be reserved by calling the church office at 304-636-0569 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
