BELINGTON -- Community sponsors and volunteers came together on Nov. 4 to support the Barbour Community Health Association's 12th annual Turkey Trot. This event is held each year to raise funds for the Heart and Hand House and the Belington Presbyterian Church.
The two local organizations come together each year to feed roughly 400 families every Thanksgiving Day. The Belington Presbyterian Church has been hosting Thanksgiving Day dinners since 1995, with the help of 20-25 volunteers who deliver and give out the food to locals.
Kim Bolton, Barbour Community Health Association's Wellness Center director, said, "I'm so happy to see such a great turnout and folks coming together and having a great time while supporting a good cause. We want to thank all our sponsors and caring community members for stepping up and making our event successful for the 12th year."
More than 70 runners and walkers participated in this year's event, with the oldest participant being 89-years-old and the youngest participant being 4-months-old.
The top male runner went to Trevor Geroge with a time of 17 minutes and 46 seconds. The top female runner was Emilia Tenney with a time of 23 minutes and 30 seconds.
