Foundation purchases equipment

ELKINS — The Davis Health System Foundation recently purchased a Level 1 Fast Flow Fluid Warmer for the DMC Myles Emergency Center.

When lives are at stake from significant blood loss due to trauma or major surgery, the Fluid Warmer provides a rapid flow of normothermic blood and IV fluids.

Even a small drop in body temperature can be detrimental — delaying recovery or allowing infection to set in.

Rapid infusion systems are designed to warm and actively administer large fluid volumes quickly and may be lifesaving in the patient with rapid and uncontrolled hemorrhage.

A goal of the DMC Myles Emergency Center is to achieve certification as a Level 4 Trauma Center, and owning one of these devices is a requirement for that particular certification.

The community gave $1.7 million toward the renovation and expansion of the DMC Myles Emergency Center, officials said.

Davis Health System had 62 active volunteers who provided 7,227 hours of service in 2023. Volunteer West Virginia estimates that time is worth $192,753.

Starting at $3.92/week.
