WINTER WALK AT GLENDALE PARK: will be Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the Elkins Tree Board, this event will focus on winter tree identification and birding. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you wish. Meet at the first pavilion on the left at Glendale Park, Elkins entrance.
HOT DOG SALE: The Whitmer Methodist Church will be hosting a hot dog sale on Saturday, March 2 from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 304-227-4260.
SPRING DECORATING EVENT: Community members and groups are invited to help decorate downtown Elkins by painting wooden flowers that will be placed on topiaries and placed along the city streets for spring. The flowers will be distributed on Saturday, March 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. from the Atrium in the Seneca Mall on the entrance located on Mary's Lane. First come; first serve. Any remaining pieces can be picked up Monday, March , from; 4-6 p.m. at the same location. Participants are encouraged to come the first day because quantities run out quickly. The drop off date for the finished flowers will be Wednesday, March 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the same location. For more information, contact 304-636-0415.
BENEFIT COMEDY SHOW: at Jimbo's of Elkins on Tuesday, March 5 will be an evening of laughter, food and fun with local comedian Bobby Benavides. The cost includes an "all you can eat" taco bar. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m. There are no advance ticket sales, so officials suggest arriving early and bringing friends. Sponsored by Randolph County Dems. COUNTRY STORE AND PANCAKE AND SAUSAGE FEED: First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave, Elkins will offer a country store on Friday, March 8, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Saturday, March 9, 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Shoppers may name their own prices. Tickets for quilt and basket drawings will be available. Pancakes and sausage (ramp and regular) will be served on Saturday, March 9, 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Contact 304-636-0660 to purchase tickets.
AUCTION AND HOAGIES: Project Playground is raising money for a new state-of-the-art playground for Beverly Elementary and the children in the community. The playground serves more than students of the school; it is a meeting and play place for families in the area. Take part in a Fundraising Auction and Meatball Hoagies on Saturday, March 9 at 5 p.m. to support the kids, and their fitness and wellbeing with state-of-the-art play equipment. The event will be at the Beverly Fire Hall. CARROT CAKE ROLLS: Christ's Church in Horner will be taking orders for carrot cake rolls (with or without walnuts) and bonbons (peanut butter, coconut, and cherry nut). FUNDRAISER: A St. Patrick's Eve Dinner & Comedy fundraiser is set for Saturday, March 16, in Thomas, in Tucker County, at Rudolph's. Hosted by the Tucker County Democratic Executive Committee, the meal will feature Irish soda bread, corned beef and; cabbage, a vegan Irish stew, choice of desserts, tea and coffee. RANDOLPH COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL: will meet Friday, March 22, at noon at the Steer Steakhouse. FREE EASTER EGG HUNT: will be presented at 4-H Camp Pioneer on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. Children will be able to meet the Easter Bunny, and games and face painting will be offered. An all-you-can-eat breakfast will also be offered for a price from 7 a.m. to noon, featuring biscuits and gravy, pancakes, eggs, sausage, milk, juice and coffee. The event is sponsored by AHF 4-H Teen Leaders.
URBAN TREE Rx WORKSHOP: will be Saturday, March 23 at 2:30 p.m. at The Kump Education Center, Elkins. This workshop will focus on choosing the right tree, successful planting tips and maintenance tips to ensure your tree's viability. Park in the rear of the Kump House, 401 Randolph Ave. across from Kroger. Easy access off Seneca Road. This event follows the Our Town Spring Expo.
AMERICAN LEGION BIRTHDAY DINNER: The American Legion Post 29 will be hosting its 105th Birthday Dinner on Tuesday, March 26. Social Hour will be at 5:30 p.m. and the program/dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be American Legion National Commander Daniel Seehafer. Meal includes chicken alfredo, caesar salad, bread, dessert and drink. Tickets should be purchased by 3/22 as none will be sold at the door. For more information, call 304-636-3930.
