Local artist honored in pastel contest

Local pastel artist Teresa Mason was recently awarded second place in the Dakota Pastels
Emerging Artists Fourth Quarter Contest.
This contest is open to pastel artists worldwide. The Fourth Quarter Contest judge, Daniel Keys, evaluated 580 entries from artists in Italy, Australia, the United Kingdom and other countries. Although the United States was well-represented, Teresa Mason was the only contestant from West Virginia.
Mason has been painting commissioned pastel portraits for the past five years. Encouraged by winning the Best in Show Award at the Mountain State Forest Festival's Juried Exhibit in October 2023, she entered her painting "My Sunshine" in this next level of competition.
