Post 29 to host Sectional Oratorical Contest

ELKINS -- The American Legion H.W. Daniels Post 29 will host the Sectional B Oratorical Contest at the post home on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. All are encouraged to attend.

The winner of the Ninth District Oratorical Contest, Elkins High School freshmen Juliann Harlan, will compete against Second District winner and Grafton High senior Nathan Castle, and 10th District winner and Hampshire High junior Austin Smith.

The winner of the Sectional contest will go on to compete at the American Legion Department of West Virginia Oratorical contest, to be held at American Legion Post 31 in Shinnston on March 9 at 2 p.m.

Harlan, Castle, and Smith will talk about different aspects of the U.S Constitution in an eight-to-10 minutes prepared oration and in three-to five-minutes assigned topics.
