EARTH DAY CELEBRATION: The Annual Earth Day Celebration will take place today from noon to 2 p.m. at the Elkins City Park. There will be free gifts given out to each family attending. Also several Door Prize drawings. Families will be able to participate in: arts and; crafts, getting seed packets, planting seeds, visiting with Woodsy the Owl, or interactive games throughout the Park.
PICKENS RAMP SUPPER: The annual Pickens Ramp supper will be held today, at the American Legion Hall in Pickens. Serving time will be 1 pm to 5 p.m. Menu includes ramps, ham, fried potatoes, brown beans, cornbread, cole slaw, applesauce, dessert and beverages. Sponsored by the Pickens American Legion Post 122. BUCKWHEAT FEED: The Beverly United Methodist Church Men's Group will host a buckwheat feed today from 6:30 a.m. to noon. The menu will consist of buckwheat cakes, regular pancakes, sausage, sausage gravy, eggs, coffee, milk and orange juice.
MEAT SHOOT: at VFW Post #5781 will be today from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the post home in Harman. Refreshments will be served. For information, contact Danie Ours at 304-227-4349. The next shoot will be May 18.
BUCKWHEAT AND PANCAKE BREAKFAST: will be hosted today from 7 a.m. to noon by the Randolph Lodge IOOF at the Lodge Hall on the Beverly Five-Lane. The menu will include sourdough buckwheat cakes, regular pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, eggs, coffee, milk or orange juice. Carry outs will be available.
COMMUNITY BRUNCH: A Basic Needs Ministry Community Bunch will be Sunday, April 21 at First United Methodist Church at 315 Kerens Avenue in Elkins. Serving will be between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center.The menu will include special Mexican omelet, chili, cheese, green onion, eggs with cheese, potatoes, sausage, gravy, biscuits, donut French toast casserole, strawberry and pineapple salad. A free will offering will be taken. Donations of basic need items are encouraged, including toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant (men's and women's) and shampoo.
MEET AND GREET FOR THE RANDOLPH COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION CANDIDATES: will be Wednesday, April 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Phil Gainer Community Center in Elkins. A panel discussion will be followed by a brief question and answer session. Light refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by the GFWC Woman's Club of Elkins. KUMP EDUCATION CENTER RESEARCH SEMINAR: will be Thursday, April 25 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Kump Education Center (across from Kroger) with formal presentations beginning at 4:30 p.m. This event features educational research conducted by Davis & Elkins College education students focusing on recent West Virginia education initiatives. The event is free and open to the public.
SPRING BOOK SALE: The Literacy Volunteers of Upshur County (LVUC) is holding its Annual Spring Book Sale at the Tennerton United Methodist Church (126 Tallmansville Rd, Buckhannon) on Friday, April 26, from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, 8 a.m. to noon. All genres of Adult and Children's books priced to sell. Proceeds benefit LVUC and its students.
RANDOLPH COUNTY RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL: The April Meeting of the Randolph County Retired School Personnel will be Friday, April 26, at noon at the Tyrand Parish in Mill Creek. Bring items for the Scholarship Auction and donations of non-perishable foods or canned goods for Tyrand will be appreciated. SPRING WOMEN'S CONFERENCE: will be hosted by Jubilee Outreach Ministries on Friday, April 26 at Jubilee Outreach Ministries in Mill Creek. RANDOLPH COUNTY WRITING GROUP: will meet at 5 pm on Friday, April 26 at the bookstore beside Mama Mia's restaurant in Elkins. Participants should take a 1-2 page composition and prepare for discussion and a timed writing. The meeting is open to anyone interested. There is a bookstore usage fee. RAMP DINNER: The American Legion Post 29 Auxiliary and Legion Riders will be hosting a ramp dinner on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. until sold out. Dinner consists of ham, brown beans, fried potatoes, cornbread, ramps, dessert and drink. Eat in or carry out.
HELVETIA RAMP SUPPER: The Annual Helvetia Ramp Supper will be April 27 at the Helvetia Community Hall. Serving buffet style from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. or until the food is gone. Take out also available. GREENWOOD CEMETERY MEETING: will be Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in East Dailey. All relatives of those interested in the cemetery are asked to attend.
12-HOUR BASEMENT SALE: at First United Methodist Church, 52 S. Florida St, Buckhannon on Tuesday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Proceeds benefit mission projects of United Women in Faith. Grab bags available will be available 7-8 p.m.
FIRST ANNUAL CONSERVATION BANQUET: will be presented by Mountaineer Chapter of IWLA on May 11 at the Beverly Fire Hall, with doors opening at 4 p.m. The evening dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and prepared by the BVFD Ladies Auxiliary group. The meal will consist of chicken leg quarters, pork lion, with sides, salad, drinks and desserts. Before dinner, guests can enjoy appetizers and spend time socializing with other guests. During the evening the guests can participate in games, silent auctions, raffles and live auction, where they could win firearms, prints and other items donated by local businesses.
