Mon Health Stonewall Jackson performs drills with mobile lab

WESTON -- Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital recently utilized the Mon Health System Ron and Stephanie Stovash Mobile Nursing Lab to run patient simulation drills for staff.
Simulation is becoming more commonly used to train nurses and other healthcare professionals, but it is often cost-prohibitive and affixed to one location. This innovative model makes simulation training mobile, expanding its access beyond a single location.
The mobile lab houses state-of-the-art simulation technology, allowing for extensive education and the ability to drill a variety of scenarios within a safe learning environment. At Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, staff performed two multidisciplinary drills, bringing together nurses, physicians, CRNAs, respiratory therapists, and ancillary staff.
"The staff were excited to participate in the drills and the use of the high-fidelity manikins significantly enhanced the simulations. This type of training permitted staff to actively practice their hands-on skills as a multidisciplinary team utilizing our protocols and processes," said Robin Drake, Director of Obstetrical Services at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.
"The drills also allowed for insight into the efficiency and effectiveness of our current practices so we can make any needed adjustments to improve patient care and optimize outcomes."
The hospital's Family Birth Center participated in a postpartum hemorrhage drill using both a mother and an infant manikin, and the Emergency Department participated in a pediatric trauma drill using a pediatric manikin.
