ELKINS — Wendy Wolford is looking forward to her new role as executive director of Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center.

 Wolford formerly served as assistant executive director at the Elkins-based assisted living and retirement center. The Tucker County native was hired at the facility four years ago, she said.

 “Over the last four years, I have developed a deep appreciation for the residents and staff here at the facility,” Wolford said. “I look forward to contributing to the growth and success of this organization.”

 Wolford has worked her way up through the ranks at the facility. She was originally hired as the memory care director. She then moved into the community relations director where she was responsible for admissions and marketing before she was promoted to the assistant executive director position.

 Over the past four years, Wolford has seen extensive changes at the facility since ERCC purchased what was then known as Colonial Place. Since then, the facility has undergone over $1.5M in renovations including replacing the building roof and totally renovating and upgrading the kitchen, she said.

 “And we have a bakery here,” Wolford added with a laugh. “Our staff can make desserts and pastries fresh from the oven.”

 Wolford is tailor made for the position of executive director at the facility. She is a self-described people person who loves talking to the residents and meeting their family members and loved ones.

 “I enjoy meeting the people and getting to know their stories,” she said.

 Wolford graduated from Tucker County High School before going to Fairmont State University, where she graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. She is married to her husband, Eddie, and they are the parents of two boys, Easton, age 11, and Owen, age nine.

 “I have enjoyed transitioning into the role of executive director of Mountain Memories, where age is a state of mind,” Wolford said.
