CHARLESTON -- Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez (R-Randolph) released a statement following two key legislative votes this week in the West Virginia House of Delegates.
House Bill 2026, the state's annual budget bill, passed the House with a vote of 80 to 17.
Delegate Coop-Gonzalez was among those who voted against the measure, citing concerns about unchecked government growth and the lack of meaningful accountability in how taxpayer dollars are being spent.
"While I support responsible investment in our state, HB 2026 continues a pattern of government expansion without sufficient oversight or restraint," Coop-Gonzalez said in the press statement. "We owe it to the people of West Virginia to ensure that every dollar is spent wisely and with full transparency."
In a separate vote, the House passed Senate Bill 458, the Universal Professional and Occupational Licensing Act of 2025.
Delegate Coop-Gonzalez voted in favor of the bill, calling it an important step toward growing West Virginia's workforce.
"SB 458 eliminates unnecessary barriers for skilled professionals moving to our state," he said.
"By recognizing out-of-state licenses, we're opening the door to more healthcare workers, tradespeople, and other essential professionals who want to contribute to our economy and communities."
Delegate Coop-Gonzalez remains committed to fiscal responsibility, government accountability, and policies that help strengthen West Virginia's economy, the press release states.
