EDITOR’S NOTE: The Community Calendar is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. Entries appear in chronological order and as space allows.
WEDNESDAY PICKIN’ IN THE PARK: The weekly Wednesday traditional music jam sessions sponsored by Augusta Heritage Center (formerly taking place at Armadillo Flats on Davis Avenue) will now be held outdoors in the Elkins City Park. The acoustic music jam sessions will be held in the Small Pavilion (next to the rest rooms and the parking area) every Wednesday of the summer (weather permitting). Country Music Jams are from 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by Old-Time Music Jams from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All levels are welcome, as well as singers and listeners. The weekly jam sessions are co-sponsored by the Elkins Parks & Recreation. Anyone is welcome to participate (no sound systems or amplifiers). There are public benches and tables, and those who prefer to bring folding chairs may. In case of bad weather, signage at the pavilion will show the way to an alternative indoor location, the rear entrance to the Community Arts Center. Thanks to Armadillo Flats and C.J. Maggies restaurant for allowing the jam sessions to take place indoors during the cold weather months.
FAMILY FUN EVENING: Highland Adventist School invites community friends and families to a free family fun evening at the school, at 777 Kennedy Street in Elkins, on Thursday evening, July 24, from 6-9 p.m. Volleyball, wiffle ball, nature crafts and activities, refreshments, a bonfire with s’mores, and much more will be available. Staff will be available to answer questions about Highland Adventist School and Muddy Boots Academy. Come enjoy an evening of fun and family friendly activity. No obligation or cost.
4-H OX ROAST: 4-H Camp Pioneer will host the 62nd annual Ox Roast on Thursday, July 24 from 4-7 p.m. in Beverly. The meal will include two deep pit-roasted beef sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw and dessert. Customers may dine-In at upper camp’s main building and enjoy the display of 4-H project exhibits completed by Randolph County 4-H members. Customers who choose to ‘Drive-Thru’ should follow signage at the lower part of camp on the paved loop to the Ag Building. Tickets may be purchased at the gate or at the following sites: WVU Extension Office, Senior Center and Southern States in Elkins, the Beverly Heritage Center, and Liggett’s Supply in Mill Creek. BOWLFEST FUNDRAISER: The Arts Center is happy to announce the return of their annual BowlFest on July 26 starting at 11 a.m. Attendees can pick out their favorite ceramic bowl, a serving of Asian-inspired noodles and wash it down with an ice-cold refreshment. The funds raised go directly towards covering the costs of supplies, maintenance, repairs and updates to the Arts Center’s Pottery Studio. BowlFest is in collaboration with the Augusta Heritage “Art in the Park” Festival. For more information and prices, please contact The Arts Center at 304-637-2355.
EHS CLASS OF 2000: The Elkins High School Class of 2000 will be hosting its 25 Year Reunion on Saturday, July 26. ANNUAL HAMMONDS/KILLINGSWORTH: The annual Hammonds/Killingsworth reunion will be Saturday, July 26, at noon. The reunion will be at Richard and Bertha Killingsworth’s home, four miles south Prison Farm Road, Rt. 250, see signs. Meat and soda will be provided and guests should bring one covered dish. BOLYARD REUNION: The annual Cayton and L. Grove Bolyard Reunion will be Saturday, July 26 at the Tacy Community Building. Everyone is welcome. FARMERS MARKET: The Elkins Farmers Market, located behind the Railroad Depot, is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Lots of parking is available behind the Summit Church buildings. We have a large variety of vegetables of the season, eggs, cakes, cookies, jams, breads, flowers, crafts and many more items.
MULLENAX REUNION: will be Sunday, July 27 at the home of Amy Lou Armentrout in Job. Lunch will be at noon. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the day.
CHARITY CAKEWALKS: Below are the dates and benefiting organizations for Citizens Promoting Community’s cakewalks in Elkins in 2025: Aug. 1 – Elkins Area Band Auxiliary; and Aug. 15 – Tyrand Ministries.
WAYBRIGHT REUNION: The reunion of the descendants of Don and Irabelle (Teter) Waybright will be on Sunday, July 27 at the Community Building in Red Creek. Lunch will begin around 12:30 p.m. Please bring a covered dish to share. Tableware and drinks will be provided. All family and friends are welcome.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Calvary Assembly in Valley Head will host a vacation bible school July 29 to Aug. 1 from 5:30-8 p.m. Meal served every night at 5:30 p.m. All ages of children are welcome to this Free event.
WELCH REUNION: The Welch Family Reunion weekend event starts Friday, Aug. 1, at 6 p.m. at 1720 Kings Run Road in Beverly Bring a chair and snack, hotdogs will be provided. On Saturday Aug. 2, a covered dish lunch will begin at noon at Camp Pioneer AG Building, 38 Pioneer Circle, Kings Run Road Beverly.
YARD SALE: St. Brendan Yard Sale is back! On Friday, Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Available will be housewares, appliances, books, DVDs, toys, linens, tools, holiday decorations, sporting gear, jewelry, furniture, collectibles and much more. BELINGTON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1960: The Belington High School Class of 1960 will hold its 65th year reunion on Saturday, Aug. 2, from noon to 3 p.m. in the Belington Community Center (the old high school gym). Refreshments will be provided. Come enjoy spending time with old friends, reliving memories and exchanging updates on the last 65 years. Spend an afternoon of laughter and relaxation.
GARDEN PARTY: Friends of the Mountaintop Public Library, a non-profit organization that supports the library in Thomas, is hosting a garden party on Saturday, Aug. 2, in Canaan Valley. Proceeds will benefit the New Library Building Fund and support general operations. Ticket holders will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, desserts, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. A large silent auction will feature artwork, books, vacation rentals, golf and other activity passes, gift certificates, and much more. NEW SHOOTERS EVENT: The Mountaineer Chapter would like to invite anyone over 18 that is interested in learning shooting safety and hands on experience to join us at this Free event on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the IWLA Rifle Range on Files Creek Road in Beverly. EVANS REUNION: The descendants of Daniel L. and Edna Shaffer Evans will hold their 44th annual family reunion on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Arnold Park, Leadmine. A covered dish lunch will be served at 1:00 p.m. The Elwood Evans Family will be in charge. Please bring a gift to be raffled.
OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. BACK TO SCHOOL COMMUNITY FUN DAY: Tygart Valley Baptist Church, 39 Lewis St. in Beverly, will host a Back-to-School Community Fun Day Saturday, Aug. 9, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature a bounce house, face painting, free haircuts, food, games and free school supplies.
