EDITOR’S NOTE: The Community Calendar is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. Entries appear in chronological order and as space allows.

OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, Dulcimer, Bass are welcome. Participants enter through the back door. For more information, contact dp-foot@hotmail.com

WEDNESDAY PICKIN’ IN THE PARK: The weekly Wednesday traditional music jam sessions sponsored by Augusta Heritage Center (formerly taking place at Armadillo Flats on Davis Avenue) will now be held outdoors in the Elkins City Park. The acoustic music jam sessions will be held in the Small Pavilion (next to the rest rooms and the parking area) every Wednesday of the summer (weather permitting). Country Music Jams are from 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by Old-Time Music Jams from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All levels are welcome, as well as singers and listeners. The weekly jam sessions are co-sponsored by the Elkins Parks & Recreation. Anyone is welcome to participate (no sound systems or amplifiers). There are public benches and tables, and those who prefer to bring folding chairs may. In case of bad weather, signage at the pavilion will show the way to an alternative indoor location, the rear entrance to the Community Arts Center. Thanks to Armadillo Flats and C.J. Maggies restaurant for allowing the jam sessions to take place indoors during the cold weather months.

BACK TO SCHOOL COMMUNITY FUN DAY: Tygart Valley Baptist Church, 39 Lewis St. in Beverly, will host a Back-to-School Community Fun Day Saturday, Aug. 9, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature a bounce house, face painting, free haircuts, food, games and free school supplies.

OUR TOWN, INC. RANDOLPH COUNTY ROSIE THE RIVETER RECOGNITION: Our Town Inc Auxiliary’s 5th Annual Rosie the Riveter Recognition will occur on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 1-3 p.m. at St. Brendan Church Parish Hall, 181 St, Brendan Way, Elkins. Reservations appreciated 304-636-0415.

YARD SALE, BAKE SALE: The Elkins Church of Brethren will be hosting a Yard Sale, Bake Sale, and Pork BBQ on Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Lunch, which will be ready for purchase beginning at 10 a.m., will include a Pork BBQ Sandwich, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Chips, Brownie, and Water. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Church Building Fund. The church is located at 708 West Central Street.

FARMERS MARKET: The Elkins Farmers Market, located behind the Railroad Depot, is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Lots of parking is available behind the Summit Church buildings. We have a large variety of vegetables of the season, eggs, cakes, cookies, jams, breads, flowers, crafts and many more items.

CARR REUNION: The families of the late Ira and Florence Carr of the community of Glady invite family and friends to their annual Carr Reunion, to be held at 4-H Camp Pioneer on Aug. 9. Bring a covered dish and something for the auction. Dinner will start at 12 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair.

JORDAN REUNION: The 102nd Annual Jordan Reunion will be Aug, 10, at Mountain Fresh Pavilion, Oakland, Maryland. The meal will be served at 12:15 p.m. Meat, bread, rolls, drinks and paper products provided. Please bring items for the chance table. There will also be games and 50/50 Drawing.

PASTINE REUNION: Family and friends of the late Toney and Annie Miller Pastine are invited to attend the annual reunion on Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Phillips Chapel Church Pavilion in Jimtown. Lunch will be served at noon. Meat, drinks, paper products and silverware will be provided. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and two items for the auction.

74th COOK-TINGLER REUNION: will be Sunday, Aug. 10 at the pavilion located at Lambert’s Laurel Fork/Shay Bottom Campground in Wymer. Descendants of James and Vernite Tinger Cook, family and friends are invited to attend. Please bring a covered dish to share. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Table service will be provided.

REUNION TO BE RESCHEDULED: The D.K. Teter Reunion originally scheduled for Aug. 10 has been canceled. Another time and place will be scheduled and announced soon. For more information, contact Nancy at 304-940-9556.

RANDOLPH COUNTY DEMOCRATIC EXECUTIVE MEETING: ​​will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Kump Education Center on Randolph Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 304-641-0751.

CHARITY CAKEWALKS: Citizens Promoting Community cakewalks in Elkins benefiting Tyrand Ministries will be Aug. 15.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS FUNDRAISER: Randolph County Special Olympics will have a Vera Bradley bingo on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Beverly Fire Department. Doors open at 11 a.m. bingo starts at 1 p.m. Concessions will be available. FUNDRAISER: Community Fundraiser for Charles Nutter, going through his second round of cancer treatments, on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. at the Tygart Valley Fire Company in Dailey. BROWN BAG CONCERT: Wish Awake will be performing at the Arts Center on Aug. 20 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for the monthly free Brown Bag Concert. Local performers Stephanie and Leskie Tompkins of Wish Awake will bring an original acoustic experience, “blending a variety of musical styles while bringing a high energy to the stage.”

HIGGINS REUNION: The Higgins Reunion will be Saturday, Aug. 31, at Camp Pioneer. Gather at noon and odd will be at 1 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and come enjoy good food and company.

TOPS 0590 MILL CREEK: meets at the Russell Memorial Library in Mill Creek every Wednesday. Weigh-in is from 10:30-10:45 a.m. Meeting following weigh in. For information contact Jane Robinson at 304 338-6403.
