EDITOR’S NOTE: The Community Calendar is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. Entries appear in chronological order and as space allows.

FOREST FESTIVAL GRAND FEATURE PARADE SEATS: will be available at Otterbein United Methodist Church at 1100 South Davis Avenue in Elkins. The seats for the Oct. 4 parade are on sale now. Parade seats may be reserved by calling the church office at 304-636-0569 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All seats must be paid for by Friday, Sept. 26. Seats that are not paid for by Sept. 26 will be resold. Process from the sale of the chairs will benefit various women’s and children’s missions.

WEDNESDAY PICKIN’ IN THE PARK: The weekly Wednesday traditional music jam sessions sponsored by Augusta Heritage Center (formerly taking place at Armadillo Flats on Davis Avenue) will now be held outdoors in the Elkins City Park. The acoustic music jam sessions will be held in the Small Pavilion (next to the rest rooms and the parking area) every Wednesday of the summer (weather permitting). Country Music Jams are from 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by Old-Time Music Jams from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All levels are welcome, as well as singers and listeners. The weekly jam sessions are co-sponsored by the Elkins Parks & Recreation. Anyone is welcome to participate (no sound systems or amplifiers). There are public benches and tables, and those who prefer to bring folding chairs may. In case of bad weather, signage at the pavilion will show the way to an alternative indoor location, the rear entrance to the Community Arts Center. Thanks to Armadillo Flats and C.J. Maggies restaurant for allowing the jam sessions to take place indoors during the cold weather months.

SPAGHETTI DINNER: Shining Light Christian Academy will host a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 3-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 412 Randolph Avenue, Elkins. Meals consist of spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, drink and choice of dessert. Dine-in or carry-out. For more information, call the school at 304-636-3448, option 2.

FARMERS MARKET: The Elkins Farmers Market, located behind the Railroad Depot, is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Lots of parking is available behind the Summit Church buildings. We have a large variety of vegetables of the season, eggs, cakes, cookies, jams, breads, flowers, crafts and many more items.

D.K. TETER REUNION: will be Sunday, Sept. 7 at the VFW in Elkins in the Fellowship Hall. Food will be at 1:30 p.m. A picnic lunch will be catered. There will be a celebration for the oldest, for his birthday. No gifts, please bring a card. There will be a fundraiser, two gift baskets and a 50-50 drawing. PURPLE MAJESTIES: The Elkins Purple Majesties (Red Hats) will meet on Monday, Sept. 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Knot Just Another Barn off the Kingsville Road. All members and guests are welcome. For additional information, reservations or cancellations call Carole at 304-614-0359.

PICNIC/AUCTION: The Ninth Annual Randolph County Democratic Potluck Picnic/Dessert Auction will be Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Elkins City Park (large pavilion). Barbecue, tableware and drinks will be provided. Bring a dish to share, a dessert for the auction, and extra cash for the 50/50. Honored guest for the event will be Teresa Toriseva, Vice Chair of the WV Democratic Party. Everyone of all political or non-political affiliation is welcome. ALLEGHENY REGIONAL FAMILY HISTORICAL SOCIETY: will be hosting a genealogy workshop on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at its library located in the IOOF Building along the Beverly Five-lane. Those interested in their family history are invited to attend. Members experienced in genealogy research will be on hand to assist in identifying methods and sources for gathering and organizing information. HOMECOMING: Mt Carmel Baptist Church invites all past and present members to their annual Home Coming Sunday, Sept. 14. Lunch will be served right after church services with the Ladies Missionary Group providing fried chicken, hamburgers and hotdogs. Bring your favorite side dish and enjoy an afternoon filled with games, laughter and fellowship. Mt Carmel Baptist Church is located beside Camp Pioneer in Beverly.

FALL FESTIVAL: The Tennerton United Methodist Church will be holding their 29th Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. with the kitchen opening at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come out for homemade apple butter, baked goods, trash ‘n treasures, and hot dogs. The proceeds will benefit church and community projects.

OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, Dulcimer, Bass are welcome. Participants enter through the back door. For more information, contact dp-foot@hotmail.com.
