EDITOR’S NOTE: The Inter-Mountain’s Community Calendar is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. Entries appear in chronological order and as space allows.

MEETING: The Randolph County Association of Retired School Personnel will meet today at the Steer Steakhouse in Elkins. Lunch will be at noon, with the meeting at 12:30 p.m. Marie Shimmel, the WV Regional Representative, will be our speaker. A Memorial Service and Scholarship Auction will be held. LEAF PEEPERS BREAKFAST: The International Order of Odd Fellows are sponsoring a breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 27 at their lodge at 5th and Thomas St. in Davis. The menu will include sausage patties, pancakes with maple syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits. Coffee, juice, or Tang will be included. The price of breakfast is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 years and under, and children under 6 years are free. Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and end at noon or until sold out.

CHICKEN BARBECUE: The Lions Club of Elkins will host chicken barbecue Saturday, Sept. 27. Meals will include a half chicken, roll cookie, two sides and water. Meals will be ready by 10:30 a.m.

2025 SCARECROWS TO BE SOLD: On Saturday, Sept. 27, Our Town Auxiliary will offer all the scarecrows currently on display in downtown Elkins for sale from the Davis Trust Company Drive-thru for $10 each. From 2:30-3 p.m., those who created a scarecrow can purchase theirs. From 3:30-4 p.m., the general public can purchase for the same price. There will be no scarecrows held in reserve. Please send a representative to make a purchase if the interested party cannot be present.

FARMERS MARKET: The Elkins Farmers Market, located behind the Railroad Depot, is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Lots of parking is available behind the Summit Church buildings. We have a large variety of vegetables of the season, eggs, cakes, cookies, jams, breads, flowers, crafts and more.

USED BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Library will have a used book sale on Oct. 1-3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the old library on 416 Davis Ave. Donations of books, games, and puzzles in good condition are needed and may be dropped off at the library on Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, Dulcimer, Bass are welcome. Participants enter through the back door. For more information, contact dp-foot@hotmail.com.

WEDNESDAY PICKIN’: The weekly Wednesday evening traditional music jam sessions sponsored by Augusta Heritage Center, which formerly took place at Elkins City Park or at the Community Arts Center, will soon take place at Armadillo Flats on Davis Avenue, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 8. The acoustic music jam sessions will be every Wednesday of the fall and winter. The country music jams are from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the old-time music jams from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All levels are welcome, as well as singers and listeners. The weekly jam sessions are co-sponsored by the Augusta Heritage Center. Anyone is welcome to listen or participate (no sound systems or amplifiers). Officials would like to Armadillo Flats and C.J. Maggie’s Restaurant for their generosity in allowing these jam sessions to continue taking place indoors during the cold months ahead. For more information, call 304-614-9527.

FESTIVAL: The Gathering: Fall Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 11 from 5-9 p.m. at Tygart Valley Ministries on Main Street in Beverly. A night of food, family, and fall fun for the whole community will be offered.
