ELKINS — The Augusta Heritage Center is proud to present an evening of unforgettable music with Suzy & Eric Thompson at the Old Brick Playhouse today. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
Suzy and Eric Thompson, from Berkeley, California, are widely recognized as influential folk musicians with long and storied careers.
Suzy was a founding member of the beloved all-women supergroup Any Old Time String Band (with Elkins’ own Val Mindel), while Eric had a band with Jerry Garcia before the Grateful Dead was formed.
Together, the Thompsons have been performing for more than 50 years in groups such as the California Cajun Orchestra, Blue Flame Stringband, Todalo Shakers, Bluegrass Intentions, and Thompsonia with their daughter Allegra.
Their musical collaborations have connected them with legends across genres–Jerry Garcia and David Grisman, Cajun greats Dewey Balfa and Ann Savoy, as well as Jim Kweskin and Geoff Muldaur.
Longtime friends of Augusta, they were on staff at Augusta’s Cajun-Creole and Old-Time weeks in the 1990s and early 2000s, and are thrilled to return to Elkins after a long absence.
The evening’s program will feature a dynamic blend of Cajun, blues, and old-time music, alongside selections from Suzy’s acclaimed project Suzy Sings Siebel, celebrating the work of 1970s songwriter Paul Siebel.
