OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, Dulcimer, Bass are welcome. Participants enter through the back door. Contact dp-foot@hotmail.com.
COUNTRY STORE SALE: The Elkins First United Methodist Church United Women in Faith will host a country store sale on Friday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. Name your own price, no reasonable offer refused.
BUCKWHEAT BREAKFAST: VFW Post 5781 will host a buckwheat breakfast on Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. Buckwheat and regular pancakes will be served along with sausage, sausage gravy, eggs, home fries and drinks.
WEDNESDAY PICKIN’: The Augusta Heritage Center’s weekly acoustic music jam sessions are now taking place at Armadillo Flats at C.J. Maggie’s Restaurant on Davis Avenue in Elkins throughout the fall and winter months. The country music jam sessions will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while the old-time music jam sessions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All levels and instruments are welcome as well as singers and listeners. VETERANS DAY PARADE: will be Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m., with lineup starting at 11:30 a.m. The parade will be hosted by H.W. Daniels American Legion Post 29. The parade route is from Southern States to Papa Johns along Harrison Avenue, then past the Randolph County Senior Center, then to the Train Depot. The public is invited to come out and support our veterans.
VETERANS DAY DINNER: will be hosted by American Legion Post 29 on Saturday, November 8. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; Dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The baked steak dinner is free to all veterans and guests may purchase tickets at a nominal fee. Guest speaker will be Marty Broderick, the President of Operation Firm Handshake. Tickets will be limited and should be picked up by Nov. 5.
MASTER NATURALIST GUEST SPEAKERS: The Tygart Valley Master Naturalist Chapter is sponsoring two presentations on Saturday, Nov. 8. Starting at 9 a.m., Kelly Smalley from Save the Tygart Watershed Association will be talking about “Watershed Management.” At 1 p.m., Dr. Ed Michael will be talking about his new book “Eagles Over Canaan.” The programs are free and open to the public. Both presentations will be at the Elkins DNR Operational Center at 738 Ward Rd. There will also be information about the WV Master Naturalists program, (mnofwv.org). THANKSGIVING BASKETS: The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Association is currently distributing applications for Thanksgiving Baskets in Randolph County. Applications can be picked up at Peter Pan Cleaners and Miller’s Modification Station, and must be submitted by Nov. 20.
WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA: Ceremony will be at American Legion Little Arlington Cemetery in Elkins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Remember and honor our veterans through the laying of remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each veteran aloud. To purchase a wreath to be placed at the cemetery, please call Post 29 at 304-636-3930.
TOPS 0590 MILL CREEK: meets at the Russell Memorial Library in Mill Creek every Wednesday. Weigh-in is from 10:30-10:45 a.m. Meeting following weigh in. For information call 304-338-6403.
