ELKINS — The City of Elkins is asking residents and business owners to sign up for emergency text alerts. Anyone with a mobile phone will receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays. Please sign up at https://cityofelkinswv.com/alerts/.

During Christmas week, the regular garbage schedule will have a slight change:

Monday, Dec. 22: Regular schedule

Tuesday, Dec. 23: Regular schedule

Wednesday, Dec. 24: *Pickup is on Tuesday, 12/23

Thursday, Dec. 25: *Pickup is on Wednesday, 12/24

Friday, Dec. 26: Regular schedule

*December 24 and 25 will see a change in schedule because of the Christmas holiday.

During December, note that the monthly bulk pickup service runs as follows:

Tuesday weekly trash pickup: Bulk pickup is Tuesday, Dec. 9

Wednesday weekly trash pickup: Bulk pickup is Wednesday, Dec. 17

Thursday weekly trash pickup: *Moved to Monday, Dec. 29

Friday weekly trash pickup: *Moved to Tuesday, Dec. 30

*The change in the Thursday and Friday schedules is due to how New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day fall on the calendar this year.

Note that this free service is for ONE ITEM only, such as an appliance, TV, mattress, or piece of furniture.
