ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College is proud to continue its partnership with Robert Grant Nestor and Joyce Booth Nestor of an endowed scholarship in honor of their late son, Kevin Grant Nestor. The scholarship, which began receiving applications in 2018, continues to provide financial aid to families in North Central West Virginia.

The Kevin Grant Nestor Memorial Scholarship will provide a four-year scholarship to two students of modest means from Barbour, Grant, Hardy, Randolph, or Tucker counties. They must maintain a 2.5-or-higher GPA and exhibit good character and a kind and helpful heart. These criteria are assessed each year to determine a continuation of the scholarship, and funds are provided as non-tuition specific.

“It was important to us, in establishing this scholarship in honor of our son, that the award be granted to a student who showed great character,” say Rob and Joyce Nestor. “For families in the areas from which we receive applicants, a non-tuition specific gift like this can go a long way toward fostering a successful collegiate journey, and we carry great pride in knowing that impact can be felt by those in our community.”

The scholarship has been most recently awarded to senior David Bailey, who has exemplified all qualities required for this scholarship for four years. A senior Accounting and Management major at D&E, Bailey maintains a full schedule as both student and professional, logging 18 credit hours for the previous six semesters alongside part-time jobs at Valley Health Care and a CPA firm in Elkins and Dailey, respectively. He has accepted a full-time position in Dailey upon his graduation in May.

“Meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Nestor was a blessing; they are some of the most down-to-earth and caring people I’ve ever had the privilege of getting to know,” said Bailey. “Their contribution to the success of students like me is a major factor in our ability to achieve a higher education and so much more. Without their aid and support, I fear that my time here at Davis & Elkins College would have been cut short a long time ago. I’m forever grateful and appreciative of the Nestor family’s sacrifice to help students like me. I look forward to seeing the next generation of students who receive the Kevin Grant Nestor Scholarship.”

Applicants from Barbour, Grant, Hardy, Randolph, and Tucker counties are reviewed by a select committee, who individually review and rank candidates who meet the above criteria; have been assessed through the Financial Aid Office; and have been recommended by Davis & Elkins College admissions counselors, prior to coming together as a group for a final decision.

Davis & Elkins College is now accepting application submissions for two new recipients of the Kevin Grant Nestor Memorial Scholarship.
