Hello from Barbour County!

Our hearts go out to our neighbors in Upshur and Lewis counties who have experienced heartbreaking flooding recently. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Tacy Fair will be taking place today, Aug. 1 at the Tacy Community Building. Stop by for some fun for all ages, including food, games, tournaments, music, and more. This will be presented by the Tacy Stickers 4-H Club.

Today, there will also be Bingo Night at the Barbour County American Legion Post 44 in Philippi beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Today is also the day for Lurch Fest which takes place in Philippi. This free all-day event celebrating hometown legend, Ted Cassidy (Lurch from "The Addams Family") starts at noon near the museum by the Tygart River. The day features music, a costume contest, vendors, food and more. Ted Cassidy’s son usually makes an appearance and spends the day in town celebrating with the folks.

Barbour County Fair Trivia Night will take place at Midtown on Main on Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Come out for a fun evening and meet the eight young ladies who will be competing for the title of Miss Barbour County.

There will be a customer appreciation Steak Fry on Aug. 8 at Belington Shop N Save. The meal will include steak, corn on the cob, baked potato, dinner roll and drink. Thank you for your support.

Also on Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., the Philippi Baptist Church presents Kids Day. There will be a bicycle course, food, games and even a free helmet give away. This will take place on the lawn of the Barbour County Courthouse.

There will be a mobile Food Pantry at the Barbour County Fairgrounds on August 13 from 10-11:30 a.m. This is through the efforts of Mountaineer Food Bank.

We have a back to school countdown  It won’t be much longer before the bell will be ringing on the first day of the 26-27 school year on Aug. 21. I would like to wish students and teachers a great safe year!

Barbour County Fair, celebrating it’s 50th birthday, kicks off on Aug. 29. The queens pageant will take place at 6 p.m. Good luck to all contestants. The week will be sure to provide lots of fun in the form of food, parade, vendors, bingo, rides, music and more.

Barbour County FFA will be hosting Cow Patty Bingo on Sept. 5 beginning at 10 a.m. This will take place at the Barbour County Fairgrounds.

The Junior Volunteer Fire Department will be having their Fall Bash on Sept. 19. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the giveaways start at 11 a.m. There will be door prizes, giveaways, food and more. If you have any Barbour County news that you would like to see in the Inter-Mountain, give me a call at 304-614-7782. I love hearing from you all.

Here’s a recipe for you to try.

1 box white cake mix

12 oz. orange soda

2 eggs

1/4 cup oil

Mix well and bake in a bundt pan at 350 degrees.

Make a glaze of powdered sugar and orange soda until the thickness that you want.

I made this cake this week. It was very good Next time, I might add some orange extract to make it a little more “orange” tasting.

I hope that you like it.

Until next time…The sun may not always shine in West Virginia, but the people sure do! Stay safe.

Starting at /week.
