OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. ELKINS FARMERS MARKET: Open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon behind the Railroad Depot in Elkins. Parking can be found behind the Center Branch Church (formerly the Summit Church) buildings. The market consists of a large variety of vegetables during the growing season, eggs, cakes, cookies, jams, breads, flowers, crafts and many more items.
RANDOLPH COUNTY DEMOCRATIC WOMEN: will meet today at 5:30 p.m. at Las Trancas Mexican Restaurant in Elkins. They will be discussing the upcoming state convention and ways to get involved helping candidates. Everyone is welcome to attend. INDOOR YARD SALE AND HOTDOG SALE: St Patrick's Parrish Hall in Coalton is hosting a indoor yard sale and hotdog sale Saturday, Aug. 15. Concessions will be available beginning at 11 a.m., including hotdogs, nachos, pepperoni rolls, slaw and drinks. There will be a 50/50 drawing and other give away drawings. All proceeds go to St. Patricks Church Cemetery fund.
LIONS CLUB OF ELKINS CHICKEN BARBECUE: The Lions Club of Elkins will have a Chicken Barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the parking lot across from Davis Electrical Service on Randolph Avenue (former IGA). The meal will include half a chicken, two side items, dessert and bottled water. The meals will be ready for drive-thru and walk-up pickup by 10:30 a.m. Lions Club brooms and mops will also be available.
LABAN SMITH REUNION: The annual Laban Smith reunion will be Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Dry Fork Recreation Center pavilion starting at noon. All attending are asked to bring a dish to share and something for the silent auction, one for a child and one for an adult. Please bring your own drinks and chairs if possible.
MEAT SHOOT: VFW Post 5781 will host a meat shoot on Aug.15 at the post home in Harman. The next shoot is scheduled for Sept. 19. For more information, contact Danie Ours at 304-227-4349.
WEDNESDAY PICKIN': Country Music and Old-Time Jam Sessions will take place at Elkins City Park in the Sycamore Street Pavillion every Wednesday for the rest of the summer. Country Music Jams are from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Old-Time Music Jams are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Some jams may start sooner or end later. Players, singers and listeners are welcome. EHS CLASS OF 1976: The Elkins High School Class of 1976 will hold its 50th year class reunion Friday, Aug. 21, thru Sunday, Aug. 23. A casual get together will be held on Friday at Magnolia Hall on Scott Hill in Elkins with hors devours from Beanders, games, and a 50/50 drawing. A buffet dinner, catered by Fish Hawk Acres, will be served at Magnolia Hall on Saturday. Activities for Saturday include a 50/50 drawing, silent auction/raffle, 70's music, a photo booth, and a class retrospect. HIGGINS REUNION:The Higgins Reunion will be Sunday, Aug. 30 at Camp Pioneer. Gather at noon, dinner at 1 p.m. Come, bring a covered dish and something for the auction table. We do hope to see everyone there!
MOTHER JONES PRESENTATION: will be Sunday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins. Mary Harris, also known as labor activist Mother Jones, will be portrayed by Karen Vuranch. The free presentation is part of the History Alive! program of the WV Humanities Council and is sponsored by Randolph County Democrats in honor of Labor Day.
